Family Session
Cascades Park; Tallahassee, Fl
A beautiful morning dawned in Tallahassee, and we got to meet up with this adorable family for a family photo session. Chatting with everyone beforehand, we knew we were in for a great time! They’d contacted us to capture the three of them, getting a few formal shots and whatever fun thing we could come up with. I LOVE it when clients let me get as “out there” as I’d like, and I knew they were bringing their adorable son, so I decided to bring back an old and exciting favorite…!
Nia, Kenny, and Kai were the cutest little family,
arriving in lovely coordinated colors.
The mid-Summer day would undoubtedly warm quickly, so as usual, Ausbee got the lighting adjusted, and we got to snapping!
Cascades Park did not disappoint, providing a gorgeously lush background of greenery that the family’s chosen colors looked AMAZING in! Kai was a tiny ball of concentrated energy, so Ausbee and I got creative with our posing choices. The poses kept Nia and Kenny laughing and enjoying themselves, as well as kept Kai busy! At one point, we instructed Kenny to toss Kai into the air for an adorable dad shot, and Kai enjoyed it so much he insisted we keep doing it again and again.. Poor Kenny got a good bicep workout that day!
We were having so much fun with this little family, the love between them so evident in every photo. Kenny and Nia also kept us all entertained with stories of their high school reunion, which they’d attended the night before.
We pulled the adults out of the frame for a moment to give Kai some time to shine. He gave us several adorable shots, and lots of laughs as we came up with more and more interesting things for Kai to do! We even tried to catch a snap of Kai taking a leap towards the camera with some pretty hilarious results.
We took a quick 10 to let everyone change and get ready for the really fun part of the shoot. Nia had already explained that she’d chosen solid white for the family, to make the most fun out of the experience. We started off with some loose posing, giving the family a chance to warm up to the camera again and also to document their “before” status. Then, we were ready for the fun to begin!!
Kai was so excited to have permission to make a mess, and readily showed us he was up to the challenge. Capturing the pure joy on his face was such a treat!
If you’ve been following us for a while, you should know we LOVE a mess! Holi powder creates the most beautiful mess you could ask for, and the family’s all-white ensemble provided the perfect canvas! Ausbee and I have created our own holi powder recipe at this point, and worked earlier in the week to create a variety of colors for the family to enjoy. Ausbee got the camera ready and I got the powders set up for easy grabbing, and we prepared to capture these amazing moments. We let everyone select their favorite color from the colors available, and started off giving them a few directions so that they could see how the scene would work. Then, we just let everybody run wild!
We wrapped the fun session with a few photos of the aftermath of their fight, everyone covered in so many bright colors! Kai’s smile was the widest it’d been all morning, so we knew we’d been successful in our fun activity. Kenny and Nia had also had a great time, and I’m sure they were glad to tire Kai out for the ride home. Ausbee and I left the park that morning incredibly excited to show them these awesome photos!
Shooting with this adorable little family was so much fun, and I got to put my special creative twist on things. Nia and Kenny loved the photos so much, that they requested a custom collage so that they could see as many of their gorgeous photos as possible. I wanted them to have a bright and colorful collage that captured the spirit of the shoot, and I think I hit the mark! We loved working with this lovely family almost as much as they loved their photos. Can’t wait to work together again!
