“Oh, the places you’ll go!”
Shebee got the call for a graduate’s portrait session in tallahassee’s city-scape… Shebee’s on the case!
Meet Justyce, an ambitious young woman who just graduated here in Tallahassee and wanted to take some photos as a commemoration of her achievement. We LOVE shooting young adults, so full of hope and potential, so Ausbee and I were more than excited to give Ms. Justyce some of our razzle dazzle! Let’s get to it! 😁💪🏾🎉
We met up at the famous pedestrian bridge of Cascades Park, just South of downtown and East of FAMU’s campus. Justyce wore a casual, yet professional outfit, complete with pumps and a chic blazer. Unfortunately, this morning was a typical deep Summer day, following last night’s downpour. This meant we were battling some wet locales and a pretty high humidity point, but Ausbee and I were determined to make some magic! We started off with some casual poses with Justyce, just shooting the breeze and working on Justyce getting comfortable with the camera. She’d brought her mother along, who was an absolute BALL of energy, despite the early and somewhat dreary morning. Mother Justyce kept us entertained and upbeat with stories about Justyce’s recent graduation ceremony, and all the mishaps that had taken place. We all had a good laugh and were able to capture some awesome shots! Justyce had brought along a few props that she wanted to use throughout the session, and we worked in some smoke bombs here on the bridge. Having gotten some absolute GOLD without too much time passed, we moved on past the bridge to our second locale, only a short distance away.
We made the short walk down the bridge to the opposite side of Monroe St, and setup our lights in front of the “TLH” sign. Justyce loved that the letters were large enough to stand on, and hopped right up on the “L” to begin posing! It was official, she knew exactly what to do! We grabbed some really dynamic shots with Justyce here, having her both stand and sit on the letters in different poses. Next, we brought out a few more of those props Justyce had brought, and this time posed her just in front of the sign with her sparklers ablaze. 🎇🎇
Next up, our first outfit change! Justyce changed into a beautiful and vibrant red dress, paired with those nice black pumps. When we’d first talked with Justyce to plan the shoot, she was greatly interested in locales within the city with urban aesthetics and an artsy vibe. One thing she was really interested in was the different murals that can be found around the city. Ausbee and I went hunting for what we thought would be the best spots for the session, and Justyce and her mom followed us over to Railroad square after getting dressed. Here is where we were saddled with the worst of the effects of last night’s bad weather, but Shebee never backs down from a challenge and soldiered on! Justyce posed in front of the elaborate Alice in Wonderland mural we’d discovered and Ausbee snapped away as I directed Justyce and adjusted the lighting. We also utilized a few more of Justyce’s props here, firing off a party popper and posing her with her balloon initial.
This mural was so vibrant, and worked well with Justyce’s understated outfit. We brought our lighting in closer to really have Justyce pop in front of the intricate wall, and she gave us beautiful shot after shot! We talked with Justyce about her plans now that she was headed out of state to college, and her career ambitions afterwards. Justyce’s mom beamed as her daughter talked about her big plans and posed effortlessly in front of the camera. We happily grabbed a few final gems to wrap the session, then packed up our gear. Justyce was a bright young lady with big dreams and an even brighter smile, we wish her the best in her future endeavors and hope these captured memories will help her celebrate how far she’s come. ‘Til next time!
